People Watch: On the move in August

Louis Gagnon (pictured) is the new market leader and CEO of Mercer Canada. He joined the company more than 27 years ago as a consultant in Canada before transferring to Mercer’s U.S. operations in 1996. Most recently, he led the growth and innovation function for the global retirement business.

Franklin Resources has appointed Vijay C. Advani and Jennifer M. Johnson as co-presidents, effective Oct. 1, 2015. They have each been with the firm for more than 20 years. Current president Gregory E. Johnson will continue in his role as chairman and CEO.

George Agethen has joined Ivanhoé Cambridge as senior vice-president, Asia-Pacific, growth markets. He’s based in Hong Kong and will mainly oversee the implementation of investment and asset management strategies for the region.

James Davis is the new chief investment officer at OPTrust. Most recently, he held the role of vice-president, strategy and asset mix and chief economist at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.

Manulife Asset Management has hired Dario Di Napoli as managing director, institutional sales.

Rhonda Goldberg is joining IGM Financial as vice-president, regulatory affairs. She was previously director of the OSC’s Investment Funds and Structured Products Branch, as well as acting director for the OSC’s Office of Investor Policy, Education and Outreach.

Eric Hachmer is the new market growth leader for Mercer Canada. He has more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience, and spent the past 10 years at ADP.

Jean-Philippe Provost is the new market business leader for the retirement business at Mercer Canada. He will return from his current position as the leader for Mercer’s international consulting business.

Casey, Quirk & Associates co-founder and partner Kevin Quirk has been appointed chairman, succeeding co-founder John Casey, who is transitioning to the role of senior advisor at the firm.

Ontario has established a nominating council to provide advice and recommendations to the government on the appointment of the initial board of directors for the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan Administration Corporation. Former Bank of Canada governor David Dodge will chair the council. Claude Lamoureux, former president and CEO of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, and Gail Cook-Bennett, former chair of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, are also members of the council.
