People Watch: On the move in June

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has appointed Neil Bisset as senior vice-president and chief information officer.

Warren Bergen is the new president of investment firm AVAC Ltd. and Mark Carlson is managing partner of Verdex Capital, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AVAC. Bergen, formerly vice-president of corporate development, has been with AVAC since 2011. Carlson has been with AVAC since 2009 and was formerly vice-president of investment.

Kieran Brennan has joined Connor, Clark & Lunn as vice-president institutional sales, U.S.A. He was previously with First Eagle Investment Management where he worked in institutional marketing and client service.

BMO Global Asset Management has appointed Natalie Camara to the position of vice-president, institutional sales and service. She has nearly 20 years of experience in investment product marketing, business development, sales and relationship management.

CFA Society Toronto has announced that Anish Chopra has been appointed board chair. He is managing director and portfolio manager at TD Asset Management. The organization also welcomed four new members to the board of directors: Alain Bergeron, senior vice-president, investment management and head of asset allocation at Mackenzie Investments; Vadim Gracie, director, investment risk management at OMERS; Pamela Steer, CFO for the WSIB; and Marcus Turner, industry consultant, formerly senior consultant at Towers Watson.

Manulife Asset Management has appointed Claude Chene as global head of distribution. Most recently, he spent almost three years as global head of distribution and board member for Ignis Asset Management in London. And Michael Reid has taken on the newly created role of senior strategist, pension solutions within the firm’s investment solutions team. Most recently he headed up Manulife’s global pension group. Manulife Asset Management Private Markets has made three senior appointments. Jenn Lundmark was named head of real estate fundraising, Ken Pogrin was named global head of business development and chief operating officer, and Sahezad Pardhan was named global chief financial officer.

Glenna Chestnutt has joined White Willow Benefits Consultants, a People Corporation company, as partner and senior benefits consultant. She was most recently manager of business development at Standard Life. And Jean-Francois Potvin has joined People Corporation as vice-president, consulting services. He was most recently at Green Shield Canada.

Organizational Solutions recently welcomed two new employees. Richard Coté has joined as an account executive for Quebec and eastern regions. He was most recently a senior manager of compensation and benefits at Yellow Pages and has more than 20 years of experience with major consulting firms in Toronto and Montreal. Shirley Guest has joined as an account executive for the western region. She was most recently with an Alberta-based brokerage firm.

Orla Cousineau is now the executive director, pensions for the University of British Columbia (UBC) Staff and Faculty Pension Plans. She has more than 25 years of pension industry experience and was previously a partner with Mercer.

Jennifer Curzon has recently been appointed regional director, group sales and service, western Canada for Industrial Alliance. She’s been with Industrial Alliance since 2011 and was previously the regional director for British Columbia.

Borden Ladner Gervais has appointed Phil Donnelly as chief talent officer, a newly created role. He was previously the global chief people officer at international law firm White & Case.

State Street Global Advisors has appointed Greg Ehret as president. He’s a 20-year veteran of the company and has held a number of executive positions in operations, sales and product development, including co-head of the firm’s exchange-traded fund business.

Martin Ferguson, co-manager of the Mawer New Canada Fund, will retire from Mawer Investment Management at the end of the year. He’s worked at the firm for 18 years.

Mary Forrest, president and CEO of Munich Re North America (Life), has been elected chair of the board of directors of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA). She succeeds Donald Guloien, president and CEO of Manulife.

Medavie Blue Cross has appointed Chris Goguen as the latest addition to its drug management solutions team in the newly created role, strategic pharmaceutical partnerships lead. Prior to joining Medavie, he worked at GlaxoSmithKline.

Greg Heise has joined George & Bell Consulting as a partner with the firm. Most recently, he was a partner at a national human resource consulting firm.

The Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP) has appointed Janet Julé as its chief investment officer (CIO), effective Aug. 1.

Pacific Blue Cross has appointed Shelley Kee to the position of senior vice-president sales and group client development effective July 20. She’s currently vice-president, group business Atlantic with Medavie Blue Cross.

Tiff Macklem (pictured above) has been appointed by Scotiabank to its board of directors. He is the dean of the Rotman School of Management and previously served as senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada.

Jamie Martin is now at People Corporation as a consultant in its group retirement solutions division. He has 18 years of experience in the group retirement industry and was most recently at Standard Life.

Ken Millard is now vice-president, group retirement services products and pricing, wealth management at Great-West Life. He was formerly vice-president of national accounts.

Aisling O’Doherty has joined Stem Capital as senior analyst. Most recently, she was with the London School of Economics as research manager for a large management research project.

Moe Renaud has joined Mercer’s Canadian health and benefits team as its national sales leader. He brings 20 years of experience to the role, and previously held sales leadership positions with both Aon Hewitt and Desjardins Financial Security.

Kristin Shearer is now an associate on Northleaf Capital Partners’ private equity team. Prior to joining Northleaf, she was a manager, M&A transaction services at Deloitte,
