People Watch: On the move in May

Here’s a review of the people on the move this month.

HUB International STRATA Benefits Consulting has acquired the group retirement practice of Cusson & Anderson. As a result, Scott Anderson has joined as vice-president, retirement plans, and Jennifer Kingsley has joined as a senior client service specialist.

Carl Bang has joined Sun Life Investment Management Inc. as president. He was most recently chief investment officer (CIO) of the Qatar Foundation Endowment (QFE), one of the largest endowment funds in the world. Prior to that, he was chairman and CEO of State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) based in Paris. Bang has also held the roles of president, senior managing director and CIO for SSgA Canada.

The board of the International Centre for Pensions Management (ICPM) has appointed Rob Bauer executive director, effective immediately. He replaces Keith Ambachtsheer, who has been named director emeritus of the ICPM.

The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec has appointed Andreas Beroutsos executive vice-president, private equity and infrastructure. He replaces Normand Provost, who announced his plans to retire last year. Beroutsos was director and senior partner and member of the firmwide senior partner election committee at McKinsey & Company, where he established and managed the global private equity practice.

Chris Boyle (pictured above) is set to join Mackenzie Investments in August as senior vice-president, institutional. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at CI Financial and Fidelity Investments. Boyle has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Bill Hatanaka, president and CEO of OPSEU Pension Trust, will leave the organization at the end of September. He will work with the board to help select his successor.

Melissa Kennedy is moving to Sun Life Financial as executive vice-president and general counsel. She replaces Tom Bogart, who is retiring from the company at the end of June. Kennedy joins the firm from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where she most recently served as senior vice-president, general counsel and corporate affairs.

Taras Klymenko has been appointed head of institutional business for Picton Mahoney Asset Management. He has close to 15 years of industry experience and has held senior institutional positions at some of Canada’s most prominent asset management firms.

Marc Mayer has joined Schroder Investment Management North America as head of institutional – North America. Most recently, he served as CEO of global investment management firm GMO LLC. Prior to that, Mayer spent 20 years at AllianceBernstein, where he served in various leadership roles.

AGF Management Ltd. has appointed Kevin McCreadie as president and CIO of AGF Investments. He has more than 30 years of investment management experience, with extensive expertise in retail and institutional asset management and direct portfolio management.

Vitech Systems Group has appointed Elena Morandi-Bonner to the position of director in its Toronto office. She has an extensive background in Canadian pension and benefits consulting and is both a certified project management professional and an ISO 9001 lead auditor.

Dianna Price has joined Romspen Investment Corp. as executive vice-president, investor relations. She takes on this role after more than seven years at Northern Trust as vice-president, business development.

Kai Sotorp has been appointed president and CEO of Manulife Asset Management and executive vice-president and global head of wealth and asset management. He had been with UBS Global Asset Management as CEO, Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining UBS, Sotorp was with American International Group and Kemper Financial Services.

Mark Sylvia has been named president and CEO of Empire Life, effective June 2, 2014. He will succeed Les Herr, who will be stepping down as CEO at the end of May. Sylvia comes to Empire Life from his current role as president of Clarity Underwriting Managers, an insurance consultancy firm he founded.
