People Watch: On the move in September

Dennis Mitchell (pictured) has joined Sprott Asset Management as a senior vice-president and senior portfolio manager. He was previously executive vice-president and chief investment officer at Sentry Investments.

AIMCo has appointed Helen M. Kearns to its board of directors. She’s the president and CEO of investment advisory firm Bell Kearns & Associates Ltd. and has worked in the industry for more than 30 years.

Fiera Capital Corporation has announced that John Valentini has joined its Fiera Capital global team as executive vice-president and CFO. Prior to joining Fiera Capital, he was executive vice president, CFO and COO of PSP Investments. Fiera has also promoted Sylvain Roy to president and COO of its Canadian division. Roy has more than 18 years of industry experience. Fiera Capital also recently appointed David Stréliski to the position of senior vice-president and chief risk officer.

Hicks Morley has hired eight new associates. Lydia Bay, Njeri Damali Campbell, Carey O’Connor, Jeffrey Patterson, Elizabeth Winter have joined the Toronto office while Gabrielle Fortier-Cofsky has joined the Ottawa office. They currently practice in all areas of labour and employment law. And Alyson Frankie and Paul Migicovsky have joined the pension, benefits and executive compensation practice group. They’ll both work in Toronto.

Medavie Blue Cross has promoted Eric Laberge to the role of president. He most recently served as senior vice-president of the company’s group business.

Northern Trust Canada has appointed Nick Petruccelli as senior vice-president, institutional sales. He has more than 15 years of sales leadership experience within financial
services.

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has appointed Charley Butler to the position of vice-president, member experience and innovation. She has more than 15 years of experience in client services operational management, business transformation and strategy. Separately, Teachers’ appointed Nicole Musicco as managing director for Asia-Pacific and head of the Hong Kong office. She joined Teachers’ in 2002 and has held positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as vice-president, Teachers’ Private Capital.

UBS Global Asset Management (Canada) Inc. has appointed Bryan DeLaurier as executive director of institutional sales. He brings close to 20 years of experience in asset management to his new role.
