Russell Investments is appointing Peter Gunning as its global chief investment officer.
Gunning had assumed the role on an interim basis when Jeff Hussey left the firm in October 2018. With 23 years of experience at Russell Investments, Gunning joined the Sydney office in 1996. He served as global chief investment officer in the U.S. headquarters in 2008 and then took on the role of chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific in 2013.
Before joining the firm, Gunning held positions for seven years in risk and equity portfolio management at the Commonwealth Bank of Australian.

“Our clients’ needs have become more complex and challenging, and they’re increasingly looking to partner with us on investment solutions and services that extend well beyond traditional asset management,” said Michelle Seitz, chairman and chief executive officer at Russell Investments, in a press release. “With his deep experience in both investment management and client-facing roles, Pete is the perfect person to lead our investment division during this period of industry evolution and change.”
In addition to the new role, Gunning will remain responsible for the strategic oversight of Russell Investments’ business in the Asia-Pacific region.
