Pension debate scheduled for Tuesday

Government House Leader John Baird announced late yesterday that a special House of Commons “take-note” debate on pension reform is scheduled for the evening on Tuesday Nov. 23.

“This gives members an opportunity to bring issues from their constituents forward in the House,” Baird said in agreeing to the Liberal request, the Globe and Mail reports.

This meeting comes just under a month before the federal government and the provinces are set to meet in Kananaskis, Alta., to discuss pension reform and possible changes to Canada Pension Plan benefits.

“The fact that there is a take-note debate is a good thing,” NDP Leader Jack Layton said. “But what we need to see now is action by the government.” Related links
