National Institute of Ageing appoints inaugural senior research fellow

Ted Rogers School of Management’s National Institute of Ageing has appointed Bonnie-Jeanne MacDonald as its inaugural senior research fellow.

In the role, she will conduct research relating to Canada’s health and retirement income systems. MacDonald is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and resident scholar at Eckler Ltd. She will continue to publish her work in academic journals and mainstream outlets, as well as present her findings at industry events and public policy engagements.

“The NIA is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of research to improve both the financial and health aspects of Canadian’s aging population,” said Stephanie Woodward, executive director of the National Institute of Ageing, in a news release. “Bonnie-Jeanne’s extensive research and her success in translating her results into actionable insights make her perfectly suited to the institute’s mandate.”

MacDonald has published numerous academic papers on a wide variety of topics relating to retirement financial security for Canadians. In 2004, her research led to the development of the living standard replacement rate, a measure to evaluate how much retirement income an individual needs to retire comfortably.
