What Does Tillerson Augur for Climate Policy?

How could Rex Tillerson’s appointment as Secretary of State impact global climate policy? Much can be gleaned from his track record as head of ExxonMobil, a company that has in the past fueled the climate change denial movement through research, lobbying and advertising. This year’s Global Investment Conference will feature, Steve Coll, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power, a book that documents the role that powerful company has played in shaping the global geopolitical landscape and the debate about one of the biggest issues facing humanity today – global warming.

Coll will review the history of ExxonMobil’s involvement with climate policy, including campaigns to promote doubts about established science, and assess how Trump’s cabinet of skeptics about climate science will proceed to undo policies forged during the Obama Administration.
