What do a workplace health advocate, union director, health benefits administrator, disability management consultant and a wellness team all have in common? They’re all winners of the second annual Who’s Who in Workplace Health Awards.

The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony held at The Carlu in downtown Toronto on Friday. There were about 50 people in attendance—a mix of plan sponsors, insurers, consultants, and employee assistance providers.

The awards recognize organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the health and well-being of Canadian employees and their families.

There were four categories—employer, provider leadership, volunteer, and employee communication—and the winners are:

Employer
Michelle Knudson, coordinator of occupational health services, St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay, Ont. as well as Lyle Hargrove, director of health and safety fund, Canadian Auto Workers, and Eva Csendes, director of contract administration and hourly benefits, General Motors Canada Ltd. in Toronto.

Provider Leadership
Wolfgang Zimmerman, executive director, National Institute of Disability Management and Research in Victoria, B.C.

Employee Communication
The Health and Wellness Committee of Pacific Blue Cross in Vancouver.

Volunteer
Allan Smofsky, chair of the Canadian Healthy Workplace Council, and a senior health and wellness consultant at Towers Perrin in Toronto.

The winners will be profiled in the November issue of Working Well. For archived issues of Working Well, click here.
