Morneau Shepell updates EAP app

Morneau Shepell, under its Shepell•fgi brand, has released version 2.0 of its employee assistance program (EAP) app. Previously only offered only in Canada, the new version of My EAP is available on a global basis and features articles, videos, and interactive tools to support employee health and wellness.

New features include the ability for employees to:

  • contact EAP support toll-free, anytime and from anywhere worldwide;
  • register for e-counselling directly through the app (in Canada and the U.S);
  • determine their stress levels via a new tool called My Stress Index; and
  • evaluate their relationship using a new tool called My Relationship Meter.

“Thus far, the most viewed items on the app have been articles and videos related to stress,” said Barb Veder, clinical director with Morneau Shepell. “Therefore, we built a more robust version with tools geared to satisfy these needs. Providing mental health support on issues such as stress, depression and anxiety are also aligned with our organization’s commitment to raising awareness around mental health, and enhancing access to appropriate channels of support.”

According to Statistics Canada, in 2010, over one-quarter of Canadian working adults said their daily lives were highly stressful. And high stress levels—whether due to personal, professional, medical, legal, or financial reasons—can create a burden to both employers and Canada’s healthcare system.

After users determine their level of stress, the My Stress Index provides them with tips on how to manage their stress, as well as info on how to access EAP services that can assist.

The second most accessed issue for support was relationships, says Veder. The My Relationship Meter helps users to access supports that can educate them on topics such as communication and conflict resolution.

To date, My EAP is the only EAP app available for mobile devices worldwide. It is free to download on Apple iPhones (3G and 4G), iPod Touches and iPads, RIM’s Blackberry Bold, Curve and Torch models, and Android devices.
