With huge cuts to government spending in the public sector, one area that has hit some tailwinds is the healthcare sector. Cuts to healthcare spending on the part of cash-strapped governments in the U.S. and in Europe, however, some investors (wrongly) believe that innovation will not be rewarded or indeed financed. This is clearly not the case argued speaker Andrew Swanson, Portfolio Manager, Pyramis Global Advisors, who spoke at the 2012 Investment Innovations Conference in San Diego. He explains that growth in the sector will be driven by companies that are either innovating or helping to strip costs from the healthcare system – or both.
