AIMCo appoints Richard Bird as board chair

The Alberta Investment Management Corp. has appointed Richard Bird as chair of the board of directors, effective Oct. 21, 2017.

Bird succeeds Mac Van Wielingen, who has served as chair since December 2014 and will have served his maximum allowable term on the board.

Bird served as executive vice-president, chief financial officer and corporate development at Enbridge Inc. until his retirement in 2015. He also serves on the board of directors or trustees for several Enbridge-related companies and Bird Construction Co. Inc.

AIMCo has also appointed former TransCanada Corp. executive Sarah Raiss and former real estate executive Sharon Sallows to its board of directors, effective October 21, 2017. It has also reappointed Bird, Ross Grieve, Robert Vivian and Tom Woods for an additional three years each.

“AIMCo’s success is as much a product of strong governance, as it is prudent investment decision-making,” said Van Wielingen in a statement. “The experience and commitment that Richard offers will ensure the leadership and oversight necessary to support our commitment to excellence and to becoming world class for the benefit of all Alberta stakeholders.”
