Airline benefits scam under investigation

False medical claims can increase your benefits plan costs—they can also get people arrested.

Yesterday, Peel Regional Police arrested six Air Canada employees at Pearson International Airport for an alleged false medical benefits claims scam.

Police told 680News more arrests may be made as the investigation continues.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick confirmed with the news station that an investigation is underway; however, the airline can’t comment on the matter, as it is before the courts.

“It looks like they’re all going to be benefit claims made by employees of Air Canada, so they’re all bogus claims that were made,” Peel police Const.

George Tudos told 680News. He said the alleged scam is worth $126,000.

Thirty-two charges were laid in total. One Brampton man faces 20 charges, an Orangeville suspect faces four charges, while the rest face two counts of fraud.
