Employee benefits now include gourmet pet food

Benefits are now available for a new kind of employee dependant – fur babies.

Digital benefits platform League’s lifestyle spending account is traditionally used for yoga classes, gym memberships, osteopathy sessions and nutritional supplements, but employees can now also use the account to buy Tom & Sawyer pet food.

“For many families, dogs and cats are our children,” said Kristin Matthews, co-founder of Tom & Sawyer in Toronto, in a release. “So it only made sense for us to offer our fresh pet meal service to an equally creative business in the benefits space, finally bringing health and wellness to the entire family.”

Tom & Sawyer, which uses League health benefits for its own employees, sells dog and cat food made with real ingredients and by trained chefs.

Poor-quality pet food can lead to increases in pet illness and vet bills, notes Tom & Sawyer co-founder Peter A.P. Zakarow. And that’s something to think about in terms of time off for vet appointments, and is consideration for employees that offer pet insurance as a benefit.
