Newfoundland and Labrador’s Liberal party has promised a one-time increase of 2.5% to public sector pensions, reports CBC News.
The province’s Liberal leader Kevin Aylward announced the pledge at a rally held by the Public Sector Pensioners Association earlier this week. Beyond the one-time increase, he proposed annual increases of up to 2%, equivalent to the Consumer Price Index.
Provincial public service pensions in Newfoundland and Labrador are not indexed.
Aylward also said his government would set up a task force with members of the association to determine if more improvements can be made.
