NYSCRF assets reach record high

The New York State Common Retirement Fund (NYSCRF) reported a 10.4% rate of return in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013, pushing its assets to an all-time high of US$160.4 billion.

State comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli says the fund “remains well positioned for growth as the financial markets continue to gain strength.”

U.S. equities, which make up 36% of the fund’s total investments, were the best-performing asset class and returned 14.5%. Fixed income, which is the second-largest holding at 28.2%, was the worst-performing asset class, returning just 4.9%.

NYSCRF is the third-largest pension fund in the United States.
