Sun Life Financial Canada is adding virtual health-care services to its group and individual insurance plans.
Its virtual care referral networking will initially include three third-party providers: Toronto-based mobile health-care platform Akira Medical Ltd.; Montreal-based virtual health-care provider Equinoxe LifeCare; and online doctor, health and prescription company Maple Corp.

Using the Sun Life mobile app, members can access doctors, registered nurses and mental-health professionals through video link, telephone or text. In addition to online access, the services include prescriptions and hours of operation that include evenings and weekends.
“Whether you are bed bound fighting a nasty virus or running a busy schedule with back-to-back meetings, fitting in a doctor’s appointment can be tough,” said Dave Jones, senior vice-president of group benefits with Sun Life Financial Canada, in a news release. “Sun Life’s virtual care referral network will help individuals get quick and reliable care, save precious time and focus on what matters the most.”
