Man accused of collecting deceased mother’s CPP, OAS benefits

A Toronto man is accused of fraudulently collecting an estimated $197,000 in Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and old age security (OAS) payments.

The RCMP says Bob Mougtoussidis, 70, received his mother’s CPP and OAS benefits for a period of 15 years after her death.

He is accused of two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of the proceeds of crime and two counts of laundering the proceeds of crime.

Mougtoussidis appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto last week and is next scheduled to appear on April 10, 2014.

“This investigation reflects the combined efforts of the RCMP and Employment and Social Development Canada working together to investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing related to the Canada Pension Plan and old age security in order to protect the integrity of the social benefit system in Canada,” says a statement from the RCMP.
