The Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan is preparing for a leadership transition, with Alison McKay set to retire as chief executive officer on June 26, 2026, after 18 years of service.
During McKay’s tenure, the Regina-based DB plan more than doubled in size, grew its membership by 35 per cent, implemented a new funding policy and eliminated its unfunded liability, according to a press release. In 2024, the plan reported market assets of $11.1 billion, up from $9.9 billion the previous year, and achieved fully-funded status for a second consecutive year with a going-concern funded ratio of 107 per cent.

In the release, Jeff Stepan, chair of the SHEPP’s board of trustees, said McKay has led with integrity and a strong commitment to members and employees, helping to foster a collaborative culture across the organization.
McKay said working alongside the team at SHEPP and peers across the pension sector was the highlight of her career and pointed to the plan’s role in strengthening Canada’s DB landscape.
