Both will be integral members of the CAAT Pension Solutions team, joining fellow Directors Sabeen Purewall, Haris Sardar and Graham Stone in supporting the not-for-profit’s mission of bringing lifetime retirement security to more workplaces across the country.

Paul Lai Fatt

Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Paul is CAAT Pension Plan’s first employee in the Atlantic Region. Prior to joining CAAT, Paul was a consulting actuary and has provided strategic advice on pension reform, design, merger and sustainability matters for public and private sector pension plan stakeholders in the region. With strong personal and professional ties to all four Atlantic Provinces, Paul’s focus is on providing better retirement outcomes for his fellow Atlantic Canadians.

Paul has his B.Sc. from Dalhousie University and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Paul also serves as a volunteer and on the Board of the Halifax-based not for profit organization Chebucto Connections.

Karen Burnett

Karen has worked in the actuarial and pension consulting field for almost three decades. She has extensive experience in strategically advising clients on pension plan design, implementation and administration, and providing analysis and advice related to the financing of benefit plans. Using this strong background Karen will focus on raising awareness of CAAT’s modern defined benefit plan for employers currently in a capital accumulation arrangement.

Karen graduated with distinction from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics in actuarial science. Karen is current a member of the Society of Actuaries Board of Directors and is also the chair of the ACPM Ontario Council. Karen is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
