Workers want pensions

Employee thoughts on pension plans may surprise employers.

Fifty-seven percent of Saskatchewan workers say a pension plan is very important in deciding a new career opportunity.

Employees ranked pension plans as more important than cash bonuses, while employers assumed the opposite.

Only 12.5% of Saskatchewan employers with fewer than 50 employees offer a pension plan. They say they do so because they feel it is the right thing to do; they also say it helps to attract new employees.

Employers that do not offer pension plans cited cost as their main reason.

The Saskatchewan Pension Plan commissioned the research, which surveyed 200 employers and 618 full- and part-time employees.
