Federal government appointing former CPPIB CEO Mark Wiseman as ambassador to U.S.

Mark Wiseman, former president and chief executive officer of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, will become the next Ambassador of Canada to the U.S., effective Feb. 15, 2026.

Wiseman, who succeeds Kirsten Hillman in the role, has a background in law, business and finance. In addition to his role at the CPPIB, Wiseman also was chair of the board of directors of the Alberta Investment Management Corp. from 2020 to 2023. Prior to that, he held several roles at BlackRock Inc., including senior managing director, global head of active equities, chair of alternatives and chair of the organization’s global investment committee.
