78% of workplaces violating Employment Standards Act

A Ministry of Labour inspection blitz has found that 78% of Ontario workplaces are in violation of the Employment Standards Act, according to a detailed breakdown requested by the Toronto Star.

The newspaper reports that a total of 304 workplaces were inspected in the province-wide blitz, and that some 238 were breaking the law.

The employers were caught for a variety of infractions, with the most common including overtime, public holiday and vacation pay.
