Benefits Canada‘s Martha Porado was among the winners at the CFA Society Toronto’s 2018 Financial Journalism Awards on Wednesday.
Porado, an associate editor at Benefits Canada, won the Spirit of the Future of Finance award for her November 2017 story about the new Canada Infrastructure Bank.
The award recognizes an article that, in the words of the CFA Society, “best embodies the characteristics of the CFA Institute’s Future of Finance global initiate. The initiative focuses on opportunities for change with a goal to motivate and empower the world of finance to become an environment where investor interests come first, markets function at their best and economies grow.”
Also nominated in the category were articles by Allison McNeely and Maciej Onoszko of Bloomberg and Jonathan Chevreau in MoneySense.
Other categories included publication of the year. Bloomberg took home that award, edging out Benefits Canada and Investment Executive.
In the third category of the evening, the CFA Society honoured James Langton of Investment Executive as journalist of the year, edging out Simon Doyle of Advisor’s Edge and Danielle Bochove, Andreo Calonzo and Natalie Obiko Pearson of Bloomberg.
