New drug rules for seniors come into effect on Aug. 1

New rules for senior citizens’ deductibles and copayments under the Ontario drug benefit program come into effect on Aug. 1.

Until then, seniors with incomes of at least $16,018 or senior couples with combined earnings of at least $24,175 pay $100 deductibles and copayments of $6.11.

Seniors with incomes that currently fall below that threshold qualify for the senior copayment program and pay no deductibles and $2 copayments.

On Aug. 1, the maximum incomes for Ontarians to qualify for the program will increase to $19,300 for single seniors and $32,300 for couples.
