PSP Investments’ Nathalie Bernier honoured as Canada’s CFO of the year

The Public Sector Pension Investment Board’s Nathalie Bernier is Canada’s chief executive officer of the year for 2018.

Financial Executives International Canada, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Robert Half Canada Inc., all presenting sponsors of the award, announced the 16th annual honour would be going to Bernier for her work since joining PSP Investments in September 2015 as senior vice-president of strategic and business planning and chief financial officer.

“Nathalie demonstrates remarkable success, evidenced in transforming PSP Investments into a top-performing business, building strong and resilient teams and showing the true value of financial leadership,” said Pete Pigott, president and chief executive officer of Financial Executives International Canada.

At PSP Investments, Bernier leads a team spanning seven groups: finance and administration; strategy; business planning; internal audit; taxation; treasury; public affairs, strategic communications and government relations. She’s also responsible for PSP Investments’ global expansion.

Criteria for the award include several chief financial officer functions: transparency of financial reporting, standards of corporate behaviour, nature of accounting practices and a commitment to good corporate governance. The panel of judges also assesses candidates on their vision and leadership, external reporting and stakeholder relations, social responsibility, innovation, business performance and mentoring and development work.
