Shopify named Canada’s best place to work

Shopify Inc. has been named the best place to work in Canada in 2017 by jobs and recruiting marketplace Glassdoor.

Its annual list of the best places to work honours workplaces across Canada, the United States, Britain, France and Germany. In Canada, the list showcases employers with 1,000 or more employees, ranking their workplace on a five-point scale. The list is based on input from employees who have completed a review of their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

“Shopify is a place where you can be yourself, have an impact and grow. Topping the Glassdoor list means so much,” said Anna Lambert, director of talent acquisition at Shopify, in an email to Benefits Canada. “We hire outstanding people who can help Shopify grow. We look for people who care and we want people who are really into what they do.”

“What makes our culture is our people,” noted Konval Matin, director of culture at Shopify. “Everyone we hire adds something unique to our culture that wasn’t previously there. A big part of our culture is trust. We trust our people and treat them like adults. We believe everyone is capable of making their own decisions, so we foster a culture where employees are free to champion their own work and how they go about doing it.”
