Stem Capital appoints new VP of benefits and total rewards practice

Professional advisory firm Stem Capital Inc. has appointed Joseph Chan vice-president in its benefits and total rewards practice.

Chan has worked in the industry for 18 years in both Canada and Asia. He joined Walmart Canada in 2011 as senior manager of benefits and moved up to director of total rewards before leaving the company this September.

Before joining Walmart, he was a benefits manager at Lafarge Canada Inc., an account manager at Sun Life Financial, and an actuarial associate and senior account executive at Generali Employee Benefits in Hong Kong.

Chan says the new role will allow him to leverage his experience working on both sides of the table, at the insurance companies and as an in-house benefits and reward director. “I’d like to be able to help, not just one, but multiple organizations [as] someone who has been in their seat,” he says.

“And not only focusing on the total rewards, but thinking more broadly at an enterprise level.”
