The Alberta Investment Management Corp. is appointing Suzanne Akers as its chief risk and chief compliance officer.

In the dual role, Akers will assume responsibility for leading the AIMCo’s investment risk management and analytics functions, ensuring the pursuit of each client’s investment objectives is aligned to its risk appetite, according to a press release. She’ll also be responsible for overseeing the AIMCo’s compliance functions.

Most recently, Akers was co-head of the investment risk management group at Franklin Templeton Investments. During her 20 years with the organization, she also held a series of leadership positions in the separately managed accounts division, institutional sales and alternative strategies groups. Before joining Franklin Templeton, Akers held risk, operations and technology roles at Morgan Stanley.

In the release, Evan Siddall, chief executive officer at the AIMCo, said the hiring team had been searching for a candidate with a demonstrable ability to assess and balance risk. “Suzanne offers just that and I look forward to working with her as she continues to develop our risk management team and program.”
