The union representing 120 employees at Metro Inc. warehouses in Ottawa has ratified a five-year agreement that includes multiple benefits gains.

The agreement includes a 100 per cent increase for vision starting in 2023 — up to $500 per member and dependants — and a $1,000 increase to major dental care coverage, up to $2,500 per member and dependants.

Employees also obtained a minimum immediate increase of $2.25 per hour, retroactive to March 31. According to a press release from the union, the average wage increase for essential supply chain workers ranges from nine per cent to 25 per cent, based on seniority.

“Workers are in a strong position vis-à-vis employers given the tight labour market and with union strength, they can capitalize on this position to demand and obtain conditions they deserve,” said François Laporte, president of Teamsters Canada, in the release.
