Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is supporting inclusion and family building with a new adoption benefit.

The benefit, which will be available as of January, provides employees who are adopting children with $10,000 regardless of which benefits plan tier they choose. Anna-Lisa Prencipe, senior director of the company’s people team, says the benefit reflects diversity among Samsung’s employee population.

“The intent [of the benefit] was [employee] inclusion. . . . Not every family looks the same . . . and we want employees to have choice — what works for one person might not work for everybody.”

She notes offering inclusive benefits is part of a wider effort to support the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. This approach also includes gender affirmation coverage, equal parental leave regardless of an employee’s gender and the option to invest in a Sharia-compliant fund through the company’s group registered retirement savings plan.

“I think with the ever-changing employee demographics and people’s views on families, [adoption benefits] was just something that we noticed was missing [from our benefits offering].”
