After receiving the 2024 Workplace Benefits Award in the Drug/Benefits Plan Innovation category, Admiral Insurance is strengthening its commitment to employee well-being with a comprehensive and evolving approach to workplace wellness.
The insurance company was recognized for its inclusive, flexible and highly valued wellness program that adapts to meet the changing needs of its workforce. “Winning the award was a proud moment for our team,” says Allison Jost, total rewards manager at Admiral Insurance. “It recognized the intentional work we’ve done to build a culture that truly supports our people and it inspired us to keep aiming to fit the needs of our staff as best we can.”

At its core, Admiral’s culture is about showing up for people in meaningful ways, she says. “We want our employees to feel seen, heard and genuinely cared for. Wellness isn’t just about benefits; it’s about building a workplace where people feel they belong.”
One of the company’s most popular offerings is its personal wellness account. Originally focused on lifestyle expenses like fitness and pet care, the account now includes internet, home heating, spa services and home office equipment. Employees can also claim eligible expenses for their dependants. The benefit remains widely used, says Jost, with utilization consistently above 70 per cent.
Mental-health support is another key pillar. Employees receive up to $2,000 per year in practitioner coverage, along with eight free counselling sessions per issue. They also have access to a centralized wellness hub that offers virtual services such as physiotherapy and counselling at preferred rates.
Other standout features of the program include a 37.5-hour workweek, 25 vacation days starting in year one and the ability to buy or sell additional time off. Admiral also fosters engagement through wellness-focused team challenges, charitable initiatives and seasonal campaigns, including an upcoming Men’s Health Month aimed at reducing stigma and supporting mental well-being.

The organization reviews its benefits annually using employee feedback, utilization rates and key workforce metrics such as retention and attendance, says Jost. Looking ahead, she adds, Admiral is exploring enhancements to family-planning support, life and accidental death and dismemberment coverage and new resources for employees nearing retirement.
“Our people’s needs are always evolving and so is our strategy. Being recognized with this award means a lot, but the real reward is seeing our employees thrive.”
