How Teachers’ became a global investment player

Fortune recently profiled the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, focusing on how the giant has become a global player in asset management and how it has pioneered the so-called “Canadian model” of institutional investing.

This model includes reducing passive allocations to stocks and bonds, investing directly in things such as infrastructure and real estate, and managing large chunks of assets in-house, instead of relying entirely on money management firms.
