Trent University is joining the University Pension Plan.
The university, based in Peterborough, Ont., is the UPP’s fourth member institution. It follows Queen’s University, which joined in July 2021, and the University of Guelph and the University of Toronto, which both joined at the beginning of 2022.
Founded in 2020, the UPP is a defined benefit pension plan jointly sponsored by member universities and faculties from several Ontario universities. Assets from the member institutions pre-existing DB plans have been rolled into the UPP plan.
With the addition of assets from Trent’s pension plan, the UPP is now responsible for managing $11 billion. It has 35,000 members.
