The Rise of G Zero

462280_meeting_room_1Get ready for the rise of G zero said David Gordon, head of research with Eurasia Group and keynote speaker here at the 2011 Risk Management Conference being held in Muskoka Canada. The global power structure will lack leadership going forward as countries like the US, Germany and other G7 powers turn inward to deal with huge problems on the home front. “Traditional powers will be unable or unwilling to provide the leadership they’ve provided in the past,” said Gordon, adding that multi-lateral agreements that used to be commonplace will soon be harder and harder to reach. That means it will be harder to deal unilaterally with global risks like climate change and cyber risk. And it will also lead to a trade environment rife with tension he said.
