10 reasons why the ORPP is absurd

Earlier this week, the Ontario government announced plans to introduce the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP) using a phased-in approach. But tax expert Jack Mintz argues “the best approach is to kill the whole idea in the first place.”

in the Financial Post, he says the ORPP is a “hare-brained idea” and gives 10 reasons why.

Here are a few of his reasons: 80% of workers already have sufficient savings for an adequate retirement, the plan unnecessary for many upper-income households and the plan will hurt the middle class.
