Quebec MNAs vote to increase pension contributions

Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) in Quebec will soon have to contribute more to their pensions.

The Liberals and Parti Québécois voted in favour of a motion by the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) to increase pension payments to 50%, up from the current 21%.

CAQ leader François Legault said that elected officials should have to pay the same amount as municipal employees, who will also have to make 50% contributions to their pension plans.

He thinks the government should “lead by example” and MNAs should contribute just as much as municipal employees will under the pension reforms proposed in Bill 3.
