Molson Coors Beverage Co. is offering gender affirmation coverage to its Canadian employees as part of a wider effort to address and enhance diversity, equity and inclusion at the company.

“We have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and one of our key values is putting people first — this was just another step in that direction,” says Michael Nordman, senior community affairs manager at Molson Coors. “We hope to play a supportive role in our employees’ individual journeys if they choose to transition or affirm their gender.”

The coverage, which is available to the company’s Canadian employees and their dependants, includes reimbursement for masculinization or feminization treatment and any procedures for gender-affirming surgery.

The benefits are part of an overall package that also includes fertility treatments for same-sex couples and parental leave for those couples throughout North America. “It’s another step in providing a full range of benefits and health coverage for all employees so everyone can have a sense of belonging in the company.”

In addition to improving DEI, the benefits are also helping to retain and attract talent amid the ‘Great Resignation,’ says Nordman. “We want our teams to be as diverse as the consumers who enjoy our products around the country [and] we see this as a way to offer a benefit that will attract more diverse employees across the board, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.”
