In other news, the union representing employees at Autobus Longueuil Inc. in Quebec has ratified a four-year agreement that includes benefits gains.

The agreement, which ended an 11-week strike, includes wage increases of 24 per cent and an enhanced personal leave policy — if employees don’t take their two days of leave by the end of the year, they receive those days’ wages instead. In addition, the agreement provides access to preventative leave for pregnant women in cases where their work may pose a health risk to the pregnancy.

“The protection of women’s rights is an absolute priority and we are proud to have obtained preventative leave for pregnant women, which is essential to ensure their safety and well-being,” says Éric Buisson, president of Unifor Local 510. “By recognizing the importance of preventing potentially dangerous situations, we reaffirm our commitment to equality and the protection of our employees. Together, we’re building a safe and inclusive work environment where every woman can thrive and fully contribute to our shared success.”
